Why These Four Horses Can Win Today

Monday’s UK racing card features several standout contenders who look primed to deliver. Here’s why Bass Hunter, Al Qayed, Meydaan and I’m The One each have strong claims in their respective races on 19 October 2026.

Bass Hunter – Plumpton 14:00 (Betty Chantler Novices’ Hurdle)

Bass Hunter arrives as a high-class recruit to hurdles and a warm favourite. The 6-year-old gelding by Authorized was one of Britain’s best bumper horses last season. He made a winning rules debut at Newbury, followed up in a Listed contest at Ascot (making all), and then ran an excellent third in the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival. A lesser effort at Aintree can be forgiven.

Trainer Chris Gordon (with son Freddie in the saddle) has a cracking prospect on his hands. Bass Hunter has the size, scope and proven ability against top bumper company. On hurdling debut in a modest Class 4 novice, he looks capable of making a successful transition and should take plenty of beating.

Al Qayed – Bath 15:17 (Elite Racing Club Novice Stakes, 1m)

William Haggas’s 2-year-old colt by Baaeed (out of a Frankel mare) has shown consistent improvement and is ready to open his account. Al Qayed has finished in the frame in all three starts: third on debut at Newmarket, third at Goodwood, and a narrow second over course and distance at Bath last time when only a neck behind the winner.

That latest effort was a big step forward, and he has the pedigree, trainer form and race conditions in his favour. With Tom Marquand back on board and the experience of three solid runs behind him, Al Qayed looks the one they all have to beat in this novice event.

Meydaan – Wolverhampton 17:45 (Race And Rest – Wolverhampton Holiday Inn Conditions Stakes, 1m 142y)

Class should tell for Simon & Ed Crisford’s 5-year-old Frankel gelding. Meydaan is a smart, versatile performer who won the Al Maktoum Classic at Meydan earlier this year and then finished a strong third in the Dubai World Cup. He has form on dirt and all-weather surfaces and has previously competed successfully at a high level in Europe and Australia.

Although returning from a break, the race conditions suit him well and he is entitled to be sharper for the run. With Oisin Murphy in the saddle and a clear class edge over most of his rivals, Meydaan is the one to beat in this conditions event.

I’m The One – Southwell 20:00 (For Fast Withdrawals Novice Stakes, 1m 3f)

John & Thady Gosden’s high-class 3-year-old filly by Sea The Stars is the standout on ratings and form. I’m The One announced herself as a TDN Rising Star when winning a Newbury maiden by six lengths in emphatic style, then followed up with a solid second in the Cheshire Oaks (Listed) at Chester.

Rated 101 — the highest in the field — she returns after a break as a heavy favourite in a relatively weak novice contest. With Billy Loughnane booked and her proven ability over middle distances, she has every chance of resuming winning ways and looking progressive again.

Final Thoughts

These four horses bring quality, progressive profiles and favourable race setups. Bass Hunter looks a ready-made hurdler, Al Qayed is due a win after three solid efforts, Meydaan has Group/Dubai form to burn, and I’m The One is the clear class act in her race. Back them with confidence (within sensible staking limits) and enjoy the action.
